On December 2, 2025, the Athens-Clarke County Commission adopted a temporary moratorium on new data centers (running through the first Tuesday in March 2026), extended in March 2026 for an additional three months. On April 7, 2026, the Commission voted unanimously to lift the moratorium and replace it with a set of data-center regulations. Athens-Clarke is a consolidated city-county government in Georgia.
